When violence is about to break out, foreshadow it for a moment, by moving back to a close-up, and have your character whip back toward camera in the opposite direction to the previous move.

De Niro’s anticlockwise movement sets up a left-to-right screen direction. This is now contrasted, as we see a chair picked up and hurled from right to left, along with some popcorn. Violence has erupted and the sudden change in screen direction makes that violence seem more violent than if the chair had been thrown in from a random direction.
